Volunteer Spotlight: Lauren McWilliams

As TRIMEDX Foundation embraces the spirit of November – a month marked by gratitude and giving thanks – we are proud to shine a spotlight on Foundation volunteer: Lauren McWilliams. McWilliams has been a TRIMEDX associate since 2014, and in that time, has since connected to TRIMEDX Foundation and our mission to raise the global standard of health care.

McWilliams has volunteered for two mission trips to support the Pediatric Orthopedic Project (POP) in Santiago, Dominican Republic. POP is a nonprofit organization that not only operates and treats needy children with orthopedic conditions like scoliosis in the developing world, but who also focuses on educating local doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to expand the number of children serviced and ensure global impact and sustainability. McWilliams used her talents as a biomedical engineer to perform necessary repairs on medical equipment, helping save and change lives in the Dominican Republic.

Q: Why did you decide to volunteer with TRIMEDX Foundation?

A: My former manager, Keith Baird, is a volunteer for TRIMEDX Foundation and shared how fulfilling volunteering for the Foundation was, both personally and professionally. As a TRIMEDX associate since 2014, I felt the need to share my knowledge and expertise with others who could benefit from my time.

Q: What are some highlights of volunteering?

A: Overall, the gratitude and perspective that volunteering has given me. Medical staff are so appreciative of even the simplest repairs of their medical equipment. What I might consider a minimal repair is significant to our partners.

Q: Who inspires you?

A: I’m inspired by my children. They are my drive and motivation to do better. I want my son and my daughter to see that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to through dedication, hard work, and passion.

Q: Why would you recommend volunteering with TRIMEDX Foundation to others?

A: TRIMEDX associates should volunteer with the Foundation because all you have to do is go. The Foundation provides for all the trip arrangements, expenses, and plans for you. All you need is your passport. Just bring your skills and expertise to the mission sites and watch the beauty unfold as you make an impact on countless lives.
